Thirsty Part 2 continues to explore the idea, that we as a generation are obsessed by our social media representation. Taking inspiration from cult horror movies and directors like Dario Argento I continued to delve into the absurd. Fusing my vision with my love for contemporary streetwear labels like Palace my aim was to highlight a specific social media obsessed personality. I also wanted to focus on people I’ve met through social media and ask them what their thoughts were regarding the subject. You can read the interviews with Lara, Gina, Megan & Steph below.

IS SOCIAL MEDIA IMPORTANT TO YOU?

“Such a 21st-century youth of today answer haha but yes man obviously. It’s just how the world is now. Jobs are often given to the person with the biggest social media following. To be heard of online actually really gets you places. Think of the youtube bloggers earning 50+million a year. Social media is important to me on a personal level because I can literally turn look out that is crazy as fuck and the reception is. But when I used to go to school dressed to the nines I’d get paired off so I guess that acceptance on social media became important to me!”

WHAT ARE THE NEGATIVE IMPACTS OF SOCIAL MEDIA?

“Well, there’s obviously the occasional idyaaat misogynist that hits you up with the classic “oi lemme shag u!” message. But I think the biggest negative is becoming too involved and living through your phone. Like I was at a concert and everyone there was Facebook living, filming and snap chatting and I’m thinking just be here for a hot minute. Live it through your eyes and not your phone.”

HAS SOCIAL MEDIA AFFECTED YOU POSITIVELY?

Undeniably, it was through an Instagram casting that I met a director who helped place me with an agency. So career wises it’s a huge boost and even after being signed often people contact me on Instagram regarding work. I think social media is a sick platform because it allows me to promote myself realistically and that can be so appealing to potential clients to see a Lil bit of you.”

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE REMBERED FOR?

I would definitely like to be remembered for being a good person and trying to help others. But hopefully ill soon discover my calling and will be remembered for that.

WHO IS YOUR SUPERHERO’S?

Hmm, this is a hard one but I’d probably have to say Princess Mononoke as she’s a bad ass independent woman who fights to protect the forest from humans, who are destroying it for money. (Much like the rainforests IRL)

HAS SOCIAL MEDIA HAD A POSITIVE IMPACT ON YOUR LIFE?

Yes, it has as it’s given me the platform to connect with people I would never get the chance to without. And also by seeing a lot of negative posts to do with animal cruelty or human rights it has developed my perspective on the planet and made me more aware of what I can do to help.

IS SOCIAL MEDIA IMPORTANT TO YOU?

Yes, it is as I feel that we need it to be more aware of what is going on in the world. I also love it for taking inspiration, whether it be fashion, makeup, food or home wear inspo.

WAT DO YOU THINK ARE THE NEGATIVES ASPECTS OF SOCIAL MEDIA?

I think there are a lot of negative aspects to social media such as the amount of airbrushing and unrealistic imagery that young impressionable people see. In the past, I’ve gotten down about my own self-confidence as I felt like I wasn’t as good as all the models I was seeing on my feed, but once you realize that its all paid or for promotion, it’s easy to disregard those accounts and focus on the ones that inspire instead.

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE REMEMBERED FOR?

This sounds really weird but I actually think about shit like this all the time.. not because I’m self-involved, I just like to think that every individual person including myself has their owned little legacy. If I died tomorrow there’s probably loads of things I would be remembered for like…. being barred from clubs, shouting AT people as opposed to talking TO people and also just being an actual crazy erratic person who jumps from one crazy idea to another. BUT, the thing I’d most like to be remembered for in terms of creativity and style is my passion. I don’t always have the best ideas, I make mistakes all the time, that’s just part of life… but my passion and love for image-making have always managed to stay quite strong above anything else. Whilst money and full-time jobs get in the way of things, I think if you’re good as something then it will always shine through and from my own personal experiences, I think doing things for the love can be just as rewarding.

WHO ARE YOUR SUPERHEROES?

My dad and David Bowie.

HAS SOCIAL MEDIA HAD ANY POSITIVE IMPACT ON YOUR LIFE?

YES! Massively, whilst we all only think bout the negative impact social media has had on our lives. it’s also had a really fucking mint impact on my life and probably yours too. Without the power of social media, I probably wouldn’t have met half the creatives that I work with today. Someone asked me the other week if I use LinkedIn.. which I do from time to time but it’s so business I hate it. The best way for me personally to stay connected with people is by Instagram. I’m always liking new work and finding new creatives to work with via Instagram. It’s a useful tool!.
