LOOP is a pop phenomenon on the rise! She has the stage ready voice, the incredibly catchy songs and the determination to make it big! After releasing what is probably one of the best pop songs of 2017 “As If” we decided to catch up with Georgia (that’s her real name) in the amazing Margate location house. For the shoot, we worked closely with stylist Racquella Cass to reference some of pop music biggest icons, think the Spice Girls & Britney.

HEY! TELL US HOW YOU GOT INTO MUSIC AND HOW YOU CAME UP WITH THE PSEUDONYM LOOP?
I’ve wanted to be a singer for as long as I can remember. I was writing songs from the age of like 5 and performing them in school lunch breaks, and I was always entering school talent shows and I used to go to ‘pop star’ summer camps where you’d get put into bands, and then you’d make up a band name (probably the most exciting part) and then learn a song and choreography. And yeah it’s just kind grown from there! Started properly focusing on it after uni though, learning to play a bit of guitar and learning my way around Logic (kinda) and putting a band together so I could gig. First I did stuff under my real name, but after a little while, it didn’t feel right anymore so that’s when I started LOOP! It’s my mom’s nickname for me – Georgia became Georgie-Lou, which became Loopy-Lou which eventually became Loop. So yeah, it seemed like the obvious choice!
WHO WHERE ARE YOUR BIGGEST INFLUENCES GROWING UP AND WHO ARE YOU INSPIRED BY TODAY?
Christina Aguilera. Her Stripped album… seriously. And her voice. I think I learned a lot of my singing habits from listening to her on repeat. And Britney of course, Spice Girls, Destiny’s Child, All Saints, Justin Timberlake, Usher, Maroon 5, Michael Jackson, Pink, Gwen Stefani (L.A.M.B era)… Today I’m inspired by a slightly broader range of artists, although it’s still mostly pop. Who am I listening to at the moment… Tyler, The Creator, J HUS, Vince Staples, Charli XCX, Halsey, Jessie Reyez, SG Lewis, SZA. Changes day by day!
YOU’RE VERY MUCH A POP ARTIST. WHO WOULD YOU SAY YOUR FAVORITE POP STAR IS AND WHY?
I think it’s gotta be Rihanna. I fucking LOVE her. She is a queen. If I met her I’d pass out. I’ve actually got really close to her on a beach in Barbados before, but if she actually looked me in the eyeballs and spoke to me I’d definitely pass out.
HOW DO YOU WRITE SUCH A CATCHY HOOK LIKE THE ON IN “AS IF”? DOES THAT JUST CAME TO YOU? ALSO, WHERE DO YOU DRAW YOUR INSPIRATION FROM?
I did actually write that hook weirdly fast. A-Minor played me the track and within about 30 seconds I was like I’VE GOT IT! Voice memo’d it and then we went back in the next day (cos he played it to me at the end of our first day working together) and recorded it. I’m inspired by relationships, which I guess is the same for most artists. Romantic relationships, professional ones, friendships, women x men relationships on a more general level (i.e. As If!). If I haven’t felt it personally, I can’t really write about it.
LYRICALLY YOUR MUSIC IS VERY HONEST AND DIRECT WHEN IT COMES TO DISCUSSING RELATIONSHIPS. DO YOU THINK OT’S IMPORTANT NOT TO SUGAR COATYOUR EXPERIENCES WHEN IT COMES TO WRITING?
Yeah for sure. That’s something that’s just started to develop quite organically for me over the last year. I can’t help but be really super specific. I like it cos it’s like you’re telling an actual story – and people can relate to it more, and also probably just kinda appreciate and respect the honesty, and feel that much more in the moment with you as you sing it. Obviously, sometimes that makes it harder to listen back to/play live or whatever, but if it’s how I was feeling at the moment then that’s what I’m gonna put down on paper.
YOUR VIDEO FOR “AS IF” IS SO FUN. HOW DID THE COLLABORATION WITH LAURA COLADA CAME ABOUT AND WHAT WAS IT LIKE TO SHOOT?
Thanks! It was fun to do, and super comfortable to shoot cos it was an amazing girl-power team. My radio plugger actually introduced me to Laura and the first time we met and started discussing ideas for it, we were already completed on the same page. We shot half of it in my house so that was great for lazy ol’ me! And then the rest around Soho, in a karaoke booth (again, in my element), and then wandering around being sassy whilst people looked at us. And then when we were done we just went for a few drinks together, so all in all a pretty good day!
YOU’VE JUST RELEASED YOUR FIRST EP “CALL ME LOOP” WHICH IS AMAZING. ARE YOU ALREADY WORKING ON THE FOLLOW-UP? IF SO WHAT’S THE MUSIC SOUND LIKE?
Thank you :) and yeah I am! Well not specifically working on a body of work at the moment, but there’s a lot of new songs in the pipeline right now – the tough part is choosing which one to release when. But I’m so-so excited for the next couple of songs to come out. They’re both pretty big pop songs, and they’re both very honest and specific again, with rhythmic verses and big choruses. I love them and hope everyone else will too!
CAN YOU GIVE US THREE SONGS YOU’RE LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW THAT WE ALL NEED TO KNOW ABOUT?
Tyler, The Creator – See You Again, Kali Uchis & Jorja Smith – Tyrant, Julia Michaels – Pink
Oh god, I dunno I have too many! Lucky Number Slevin maybe?
AN ALBUM YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT?
